Jean-Paul Nsimba Mika was born in Kinshasa in 1980. He’ s from a poor family and started to study business, he studied later at the Fine Arts Academy in Kinshasa, where he gradueded in 2007.
Chéri Chérin (Cherin is one of the best known painters in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, and a teacher to many young talented artists like JP Mika) infact he took him under his wing and gave him the opportunity to travel abroad for the first time to exhibit his work in Bilbao in 2008.

JP Mika is rightly considered to be one of the most promising Congolese artists. His artwork reflects is political and social critique, he paints humanized animals in different and sometimes in humorous situation, like in his artwork “Le crime du chat” (2011). His work is influenced by Chëri Samba and Chéri Chérin, both of whom he considers as role models.

In the summer of 2012, his works will appear beside those of Chéri Chérin, Freddy Mutombo and Francis Mampuya at the Out of Africa Gallery in Benasque, Spain.
